…So, later this year, Revver videos will be available on television for free to Verizon FiOS customers.
PS: Are your revver clips available through vcast? Let me know, I’ll check ‘em out.
Bloggadocious News
This entry, besides being a scatter brained crackathon, introduces two new probably-not-to-be-regularly-updated features within “The Lair”:
My Cool Friends & WTF. Here we go!
Julia Barnes - Why is she cool? Obviously, hello. She used to be a slam poet, she has great style, and she buys me margaritas when I’m broke. I met her through LiveJournal a million years ago and now she is my “oldest” NYC homeskillet. But in case we need further justification, she recently introduced me to my new favorite time waster, Last.FM. To quote the ever elequent ‘Ju from a recent email exchange:
“I just got Last.FM… I feel so late to the game. You should have one if you don’t already… this is cool as hell. Now I have a whole new way of stalking attractive strangers on the Internets - by checking how music-snobby they are.”
Way to go, Ju! You just became the first person profiled in My Cool Friends. Clappity clapperson. That just happened.
… And just when I thought I was done raving about Do The Ju, I stumbled across this in her myspace blog:
… What the eff is this, Julia? Oh:
excerpt:
“Dear MySpace… on’t know whether to laugh or be offended. I think Choice A. That’s some WTFuckery right there.”
…So without even trying, she has helped me with the very first installment of WTF.
Kudos!
My Alt. MTV
I love Antcast. And now I can love them on the go: Antcast: videos.antville now available as video podcast!
wee!
And lastly….
Pistolera Update #30ti40580468407:
My music video for “Cadazor” will soon be available through Free Speech TV - They asked for a copy and are going to air it. …NYRemezcla is also showing it some love on their homepage. Thanks!
Guess what?
My first music video (for Pistolera’s song “Cazador”) will debut tomorrow on METV in Austin, TX on the show “Sonido Boombox”. They have it posted on their show calendar: www.myspace.com/sonidoboombox
The video will also be included in a DVD compilation about immigration marches around the country. The company is based in Vancouver, CA and is being spearheaded by Frank Lopez, formerly of Democracy Now! in NYC. It will be distributed to pro-immigrant groups in April around the country to get them amped about the marches that are to take place this May. I am really excited about this and hope it inspires lots of people.The video has also been sent to: LA TV, Mun2, MTV Espanol, World Beats, and Democracy Now!, and New York Noise.

My dear readers, you have now caught on to the fact that I rarely update during the weekends. Here are some things I would definitely rather do than blog on Sat & Sun (that I happily did this weekend)
#1 Spend time with my little sister. I have mentioned before how much I enjoy being a part of Big Brother Big Sisters NYC, and at some point I plan on blogging about examples of fun activities I have enjoyed that someone else could experience with their Little Brother or Sister. You don’t have to be perfect to be a friend to a young person. You just have to be willing to share some free time.
#2 Finish up editing my short film. YES. It’s FINALLY done. After much heartache and stress, we re-recorded all the audio and re-synced everything.. Get ready to check it out this week! I also plan on submitting it to the broadband emmy competition…
#3 Hang out watching netflicks selections with my honey <3
I was comparing notes with the previously mentioned honey the other day, and we both came to the conclusion that because of work, we each spend probably 8-10 solid hours per day on the internet. This is not counting the non work hours I spend on the internet reading blogs, gushing over fashion on streetpeeper, scouring IMDB to satisfy my current fascination with korean cinema, etc.
I feel like I am a pretty accurate example of the current average net user. All of my work is essentially done using online tools and communicating with coworkers through AIM, I find out about what’s going on in the world through blogs, online versions of news channels and magazines, (although I am addicted to the printed version of Nylon Mag), and I have met many interesting friends (dating and platonic) through craigslist. Despite all of this net activity, I would like to be able to count actual blocks of time where I am NOT on. Just a personal choice.
… But for all your joost fiends, tomorrow I plan on posting an in depth pt deux description of my exploits in joost world, include reviews of the (so far) 29 channels offered… Stay tuned!
But now - time to watch the Oscars! ![]()
This sounds awesome!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I saw Beyond Beats and Rhymes: A Hip-Hop Head Weighs in on Manhood in Hip-Hop Culture last summer at a screening given by Rooftop Films series. There was a discussion afterwards, which was an interesting experience since it was held in Prospect Park, combining my love of both large group discussions, being in the park at night, and outdoor films.
Amanda Baggs creates one of the most original, thought-provoking videos I have seen in… well, ever.
I was intruiged by her channel description:
“This channel will mostly contain videos made about autistic liberation and disability rights, for the autistic self-advocacy website autistics.org. It also contains a few more personal videos. Website: http://ballastexistenz.autistics.org/”
..I worked for a special needs school in CA for two and a half years, and up until that experience it never really occured to me in my daily life that people with Autism had much of a viewpoint on anything. This is an honest admission, and clearly after that experience my perception changed. I hope you watch this video because it’s a definite eye opener.
…Just added a new promo to the MTV News MySpace page…
Hip-Hop’s Greatest Groups: The Preview
MTV’s Brain Trust sits down once again — this time to debate the best acts with at least two MCs. Watch the action unfold beginning Monday at MTVNews.com.
Getting paid to be on MySpace
Ok, so it’s not that glamorous. However, it makes me wonder how many other people out there are like me - where a pretty hefty chunk of their day is spent updating their company’s MySpace page, researching trends within myspace, reading/approving comments, etc.
Four years ago when I first signed up and created my own profile, I certainly never predicted I would one day be paid (as part of the rest of my job) to “play” on MySpace. In fact, part of the reason I was hired at MTV News was because I was so adamant about us having a presence within MySpace.
You would think managing/updating a MySpace page would be easy, but in fact it’s actually not and is often a bit of a pain in my behind. However, it is rewarding to work with Jane and Alex, managing editors here, who contribute their blog entries, promo decisions, and support the growth of our friends and budding community. The MTV News MySpace page started out like any other - it’s a free account and I tweaked it/”pimped” it out like any other regular user.
For the longest time, no one could search for our page, which kept our friend #s low. We now have over 4,000 friends, which in contrast to other pages isn’t a whole lot - however considering we have no budget for promotion within MySpace, and it being more a labor of love than anything else, I am proud of what has been achieved so far. It would be nice if there was a tangible way to track how many clickthroughs we get from our MySpace page to the story/video links on MTVNews.com, but that’s another story.
For now, it’s just nice to see all the friend requests in my inbox, even if it is a pain at times to deal with. The people who add us are a combo of MTV fans, fans of the specific artists we promote on the page, bands seeking promo/love, various small time promotional companies, record labels, and people with general curiosity. As much as people & the press say that MTV is behind the times (and in a lot of ways, they are right), it’s pretty ignorant to ignore the fact that there is still a huge audience watching, and as long as I work for this company I will do my best to nurture our community within MySpace, other social networking portals, and wherever else we are welcomed.
As far as my personal MySpace profile goes, it would be a lie to say that my activity level on it has not suffered. I definitely don’t blog within there/post bulletins as much as I used to. I check out my friends bulletins/blogs and respond to their messages, but in general my page has become kind of a dud. Oh well. I only have so much energy and I get enough MySpace at work.
I am so excited about Joost!
I was given beta access early this morning, and since then have played around in it here and there…
My initial impressions are that the interface is really easy to use. I loved being able to search for video by keywords, being able to chat with friends while watching, and the video quality is awesome. I love the idea of being able to watch whatever I want, on demand, on any screen.
I plan on exploring it more later tonight (I am working, after all), but I thought I would share screenshots that I made on my lunch break:
