The Giant Awakens is a DVD compilation of compelling short films from all around the country, due to hit the streets in the weeks before Mayday 2007. Shot, edited, and brought together by a network of independent video activists, graphic designers, community organizers, musicians, and immigrant rights activists, it is a collective memory and a tool to inspire action this MayDay 2007, when the Giant will raise its voice again to say: we are one people, without borders. My video for Pistolera’s song “Cazador” will be included on this DVD and I am looking forward to checking out the other contributions.

Tori Amos’ new album American Doll Posse will be available May 1st. It will have several anti-war songs and she will also be touring Europe beginning May 28th (according to her MySpace page). I might see her perform in Paris in June, I hope!
Check out mtvnews.com tomorrow morning for an interview with Amos about the album, her tour, and inspirations. I read it already, haha ;P
I shot some interesting Louisiana sights and sounds, I may upload something later this week. …I’ve been feeling a bit uninspired. Perhaps it’s because I wasn’t ready to return to work.

…I found this image I made a while back for my roommate’s myspace page and it perked me up (a little):
I think it successfully captured her personality.
…Oh yes, Killer Films has a MySpace page.

NYRemezcla faves Pistolera have been nominated for the American Latino Awards as Favorite American Latino Indie Musical Artist. The awards air on July 16th across the country.
Here is the video I shot/directed for their anti-minuteman single, “Cazador”.

Thanks to Claire for posting!
I just uploaded the final version of Proximity to Blip TV.
Description: On a routine day after returning home from work, a young woman begins experiencing unnerving encounters with her material possessions.
Other locations (pending processing):
For fun, I also added stills from Proximity to my flickr account.

I don’t know what I want to do with them, but at least they are there in case I need them for anything. My first guess would be for future press related requests. In any case, it’s another method to share info about my short. If anyone searches in flickr for “brooklyn”, “apartment”, “blackberry”, etc., my stills will show up (with a link to the short).
Ok seriously, time for bed.

Are you ready? Can you handle it?
Check out the on air version tomorrow on MTV/MTV2/MTVU/etc.
If you can’t wait, read more about bilingual bands right now, and peep my first mtvnews.com byline.
Big thanks to Tami, Ryan, Ben, and Lee!
Happy Monday!
I just finished watching a rough cut of my bilingual bands package. In the talented hands of Lee and Tami, I am confident that it’s going to come out great. Along with live performance clips and excerpts from their latest music videos, it will include exclusive interviews with Los Abandoned, Kinky, and Pacha Massive.
Be sure to check it out on MTV/MTVU/MTV2/MTV TR3S, etc. this Wednesday, 3/21! I will most likely be handling the digital production of this as well so drop by either Wednesday 3/21 or Thursday 3/22 to mtvnews.com for extra bilingual bands goodness.
After it airs I can give you the lowdown on how it all came together.
…In non work related news, this past weekend I saw 300. It was the most brainless, awesome, homoerotic testosterone-fest. It made Braveheart look like a tea dance. …I also predict there will be a lot of Spartan costumes at this year’s Halloween parade in the Village. Can’t wait!
Chronicles of the journey….
#1 - My Intro to Vlogging/RSS
Sample Vlog episode for a non profit:

The Back Story
In late 2004/early 2005, one of my many internships was for a company called Python/Aquarius productions. I went on a few shoots for them — two that I specifically remember were promo for About.com and The Food Network. In the Spring of ‘06, The co-founder of Python/Aquarius gave my info to a friend of a friend, who happened to run a small brooklyn-based non profit - Projectile Arts. He was seeking someone who, among other things, could produce a weekly vlog to be used as a promotional tool for the org’s various doc projects.
This particular vlog episode was created as promo for an affiliated organization, the Reality Art Class Teachers Collective. The RACTC is a group of New York City Public Teachers who meet weekly at Projectile Arts to explore ways of using art to foster a deeper understanding of all academic subjects.
I was with Projectile Arts from February to late April of ‘06, I believe. We’ll call the reason for my parting “creative differences”. Nevertheless, it was a great experience and introduced me to the wonderful world of RSS.
Note: I did not shoot any of this vlog other than pick up shots. I edited it down from a lot of other footage. If I had shot it trust me, it would have been much better. Otherwise, I like it a lot.
Check out the Reality Art Class Teachers Collective as well. I wish my teachers had been like them growing up.

On a routine day after returning home from work, a young woman begins experiencing unnerving encounters with her material possessions.
This was written/shot/edited/scored in two weeks, after work and on weekends. …I am not pleased with the encode results within ifilm but oh well - Let me know what you think!

Twitterpated
I am embarking on a sociological experiment. I’ve started semi tracking my activities using Twitter. I am going to continue this for a while, and see how and to what degree I effect my own behavior by publicly logging it and then being forced to review it.
So far I have to say that that the whole thing feels really creepy. This past weekend I would find myself debating, what is “twitter worthy?” What is worth posting? I didn’t want to come off as a narcissistic douche. But then I noticed what others find worthy to document:
markng had a turkey bacon sage and onion pie for lunch, now I want to sleep !
And now I feel slightly better.
I love Nylon Magazine!
I don’t know what I love more - the fact that I can get entire issues online for free in a cool flippity format or the fact that they now have an online video channel.
…Unfortunately, the quality of their videos is sadly, quite crappy. And it doesn’t matter how great your content is if people can barely stand watching it.
Here are some examples of magazines doing the online video thing a tad (ok, a lot) better for my already over used peepers:
But to be fair, I also found a magazine with an even worse offering of video - Seventeen. It looks like they haven’t updated their video extras area since 2005. How do I know this? Because I worked on the MTV reality show ”Miss Seventeen” and that is the only content that is living there (as of today). Woops! I wonder how many teen girls even bother to visit the site in the first place. It seems pretty dead.
I AM ESCAPING MONDAY!
Heh heh. Yes, tis true. Bright and early I am accompanying producer Tami on a bilingual bands shoot. This will be my first experience on an MTV News shoot, being that I work for the digital side. It will be an interesting experience working on a project from both realms - the on air & the digital.
Stay tuned for many updates on this because A) I love bilingual bands, B) I pitched the show idea, and C) I plan on promoting the crap out of it. I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
